A Delicious Take on an Old Standard - Gunpowder Green

Harney & Sons consistently produces delicious tea, and their Gunpowder Green is no exception.

Gunpowder Green is named for the little balls of tea that look like mini gunpowder pellets. The ones from Harney & Sons are not as tight as some, and they release (check out the left side of the plate) to good sized green tea leaves.
The tin claims that the tea has "the charred, barely vegetal flovor of heavily grilled leeks." I'm not sure I've ever had heavily grilled leeks, but I will say that the tea is thoroughly vegetal. Harney & Sons also rates the briskness, aroma and body each as 3 out of 5, and I would agree. The tea is fairly light and pale in the cup, and is a nice way to wake up on a warmer, almost spring-like morning.
The tea is a good value, with 30 to 40 servings in a canister at around .37 per cup. Since it's not a particularly strong tea, I would add one teaspoon per cup and an extra teaspoon for the pot. Remember that green tea is more delicate - you should brew with water that has not yet come to a boil.
Thoroughly green, fun shapes, and an old classic. If you like green tea, this will be a winner.
