Flowery Black

Tasting a California Persian Black from Samovar.

My childhood best firend lives near San Francisco, so she generously shared her favorite black tea with me. This California Persian Black is quite tasty, with a very floral essence. The tea contains large organic black tea leaves, organic green tea with jasmine, and organic rose petals, orange peel, and cardamon, along with bergamot oil and natural rose flavor. This is a very complex tea - it is dark, smooth and fragrant. The finish is definitely strongly floral, like a highly flavored and complex earl grey. The flower petals and orange peel chunks are large, and the good sized tea pieces appear more green than black.

The packaging is the only area where they could improve their offerings. The tea inside the white pouch is in a lightweight cellophane sleeve that tears when you open it. I ended up moving the tea to a tea canister to preserve its freshness.

If you are looking for a flowery start to your day, this tea is highly recommended. Definitely a unique taste - very fragrant and different.
